Olsen, Sonja

Sonja Olson

December 13, 1995 – October 9, 2017

Princeton, New Jersey

Sonja Carl Goodwin Olson, who charmed people with her radiant smile and quirky sense of humor, died Oct. 9 after a very brief illness. She was 21.

A resident of Princeton, N.J., Sonja was diagnosed with an NBIA disorder at age 11 and with aNAD (a form of PLAN) last year. She was proud to have graduated in June 2017 from the Midland School in North Branch, N.J.

One of Sonja’s endearing qualities (no doubt a result of her disability) was that she could not keep a secret and she could not tell a lie. In other words, she was a straight talker!

Sonja delighted in being a Girl Scout, going to school dances, taking music therapy, making jigsaw puzzles and attending church with her dad. She never tired of hearing her mother read all of the Laura Ingalls Wilder “Little House on the Prairie” books over and over. She filled her family homes with her arts-and-crafts projects, jewelry and mosaics. She loved to travel and attended several of the NBIA Disorders Association’s family conferences.

'I will praise you; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
marvelous are your works; and that my soul knows right well.' Psalm 139:14"
