NBIA Disorders Association 2006 Expenditures

As the pie chart shows, the NBIA Disorders Association spends its money in the following ways:

  • Administrative expenses cover postage, office supplies and other such costs. No salaries are paid to anyone.
  • Family Conferences are a big expense, and our fourth one will be this year in Cincinnati. We also have helped sponsor two Scientific Workshops that brought together researchers from around he world to discuss NBIA research, in 2000 and 2005.
  • Our Web site is continuously updated with the latest research information, organization news, and allows us to accept donations online. This is a very important way for us to educate the public and raise awareness of NBIA.
  • Our newsletter is published three times per year and currently goes out to approximately 3,500 families in the United States and around the world. It is another important way for us to achieve our goal of educating others about this disease.
Research expenses cover the cost of awarding research grants and our BioBank program. We have funded eight research grants totaling $240,000 in the past five years.

100% of the net proceeds from family fundraisers go to our Research Fund. This is how we have funded 7 research grants totalling $210,000 in the past 4 years.

Our General Fund covers all other expenses. We are dedicated to helping NBIA families. Some of the ways we do this are through our newsletters that we publish 3 times per year; our Web site that we keep up-to-date with the latest news, and our listserv for all interested in NBIA to keep in touch on a daily basis. We also sponsor family conferences where NBIA families have the unique opportunity to meet other families coping with this rare disease and to learn about the latest therapies and research information avialable. We have had three family conferences, one in 2000, another in 2002, and our third in 2005. Plans for a fourth in 2007 are underway.

Administrative expenses cover postage, office supplies, and other such costs. No salaries are paid, as all those working are volunteers.
